Face Painting As A Home Based Business

Whether you are just looking to earn a bit of extra cash for your family or looking for a home based business that you can start on a small budget, face painting could be a choice that is often overlooked and just right for you.

Many started out by face painting their own kids and their friends, at birthday parties, school activities or just for fun. But once you realize how simple, and lucrative, face painting can be by offering your services at local fairs, craft shows or any public event, becoming a professional face painter can be a great home based business

Getting Started

Getting started is quite simple. Being crafty and artistic isn't necessary. You can find many resources Online in the form of e-books, how-to videos, step by step designs and networks to help you along.

And, again, practice makes perfect. Start on your kids and their friends, your niece and nephews or kids from your neighborhood. I'm sure that, after a couple of attempts , your skill level will give you the confidence you need to try harder and more elaborate designs.

What You Need
A complete face painter "beginner toolbox" will set you back less then $100. You can usually find all the products you need at your local craft or hobby store or, again, Online.

Then, you'll need some business cards / brochures for a bit of advertising and some kind of portfolio of the designs you can paint and that you've done. Always take pictures of your work. A digital camera will work best for this.

Your First Show

OK, so you have a tool kit, you practiced and you have pictures of the designs you can paint with ease, now comes the time to book your first paid event.

Every city as family oriented gatherings where they rent space to local artists and businesses to promote and sell their products. Setting up a face painting booth doesn't take much "real estate" and you can usually get all the room you need at a very reasonable price.

You will want to define your space with some kind of gazebo or sunscreen (working in the shade is always a good idea) / tables / work station / mirror or anything that will work that you have around the house. You will also need stools for you and your clients, "advertising space" to display your designs and anything that will help you get organized. If you plan on working through the evening, you will need some kind of light setup.

Obviously, this article is not a complete blueprint to starting a professional face painting business, but a brief overview of what a creatively inclined person would need to earn extra cash with this home based business.
