Home Based Internet Marketing Business

Contributed by Dale
Tuesday, 04 December 2007

Internet marketing has become an effective source of supplemental income and a viable alternative to the typical career paths of the past century. With the recognized potential to create wealth at home, more people are enjoying the lifestyle of being self-employed.

Becoming an internet marketer is very easy to do, which compels people from virtually every known job setting to start their own businesses or simply earn supplemental income. The leading online business opportunities provide all the tools, training and a system necessary to earn money immediately- for a nominal start-up fee.

It is not necessary to create a business plan. There is no invention nor patents required. There is no research needed to discover a new or better product. The main thing a person needs to do is find a reputable and honest company that one can trust and believe in. Then, learn the products and services and get passionate about them. This process gives people the opportunity to start a home business with very low risk and very low financial commitment.

One of the most attractive benefits of internet marketing is that the owners have balance in their lives. They have time for their families and themselves. Success in the field doesn't require any specialized education or sales experience. Anybody can learn to be eager to work for themselves by advertising the right business and being themselves. Most sales skills can be learned through the training provided by the company and goals can be reached by utilizing the business building tools offered by most companies.

Owning an internet marketing business provides an opportunity to create substantial wealth. It eliminates many of the inherent problems of small business ownership through low startup costs, low overhead, and limited or no employee hassles. One gets the proven success of a franchise combined with the freedom of an independant contractor. There is little doubt that a home business can thrive in the midst of a change of structure in most corporate retirement plans. The online opportunities available to everyone interested in having a workplace that sets in the office within the home require more than just a glance. It would be prudent to put "start my own business" on the things-to-do list and then, actually do it.

Essentials For Starting an Online Business

Contributed by Michelle Boyd Waters
Thursday, 29 November 2007
So, you have decided to jump ship from your office job and embrace the life of a work-at-home mom. This can be a scary and nerve-wracking time with lots of decisions to be made. Before you resign your steady job, be sure to have a strong business plan, a reliable website host, a way to create your website and a shopping cart for your products.

A business plan is basically an outline of what you want to accomplish with your business. Every business, whether it is a brick and mortar store or an online business, needs a plan to keep the direction of the company solid. If you sell a particular type of product to a specific niche, do not feel pressured to add items to your inventory that do not fit that niche. You will likely sit on a huge amount of inventory that costs you money in the long run.

The more detailed you make the business plan at the start, the better, especially if you are looking for investors or bank financing. Include a description of the business, how it will be marketed to the public, where the financing will come from, information about who will manage the company and how many employees the company will employ. There are many examples online of business plans that you can tailor to your own business.

Once the basis for your online business is set, you need a website, hosting and a shopping cart. Even though this may seem like a daunting task to find all these things, start investigating web hosting first. In the simplest of terms, the host is who gives you your place on the web, either with a free or paid hosting account. Your website will not be visible to others without having a host, so starting out small with a free account is a smart option for work at home moms with new businesses.

After you open your hosting account, play around with their website builder to create your site. These programs are generally very easy to use with pre-loaded templates and fonts. Simply type in your sales copy, upload your photos and publish your site in minutes.

Note: Many web hosts have website building programs but not all of them are free. Do not get duped with added fees...ask all of your questions upfront about what is included in your hosting package to avoid any future surprises.

Next on your list of necessities is a shopping cart. Whether you are selling physical products or information products, you need a cart where people can see your product, make a purchase and where you can process credit cards securely. Again, ask a lot of questions about extra fees for the shopping cart, merchant accounts, how easy it is to add new products and how to process payments.

The best of all worlds is to find a free web host company with a website builder, a shopping cart and a strong desire to help fellow work at home moms. This will save you money and considerable amounts of time having all the services through one company.

Open an Online Store: Featuring Software Products

Contributed by Dale
Monday, 10 December 2007
By using the right software there is an easy way to start making money online.

Open your own online store. In fact you can have multiple streams of income by opening many "niche" stores. These days you can choose software-based stores in which the buyer can simply download the desired product or get it shipped to his home. All you need is the right software to help with your website and the software to market.

Using the software products in the Back Office of EDC Diamond or other internet business marketing software companies, you will be able to get your online store up and running. You will not only own software to build your website, but you will own software to market it and also the software products to sell. Just choose your niche market, whether it's a website selling everything to teach others how to sell on eBay or a website with numerous video and audio products for online enthusiasts.

Of course you want to get the word out to the online world by using the right software to market you website. Without "traffic" to your site, there will be no customers. In order to drive traffic to the new online store you can market on free advertising websites such as online classifieds, or you can use paid techniques such as pay-per-click. Also, there is the option of offline advertising like magazines and newspapers.

You can receive extra commissions by affiliate programs with related websites. So,
remember there are many ways to accomplish multiple streams of income. You're free to let your creative ideas guide you to increased financial rewards. Once you have discovered a successful online store, you can now duplicate it at will just be
grouping the types of software products.

All you need to benefit from an internet marketing business is the right software
products and downloads. Make a wise choice when looking at the different online
opportunities available. You'll definitely be glad later if you do your homework first.

Some Useful Tips For Starting Your Home Based Business

Contributed by Kirk Bannerman
Tuesday, 08 January 2008
Whatever type of home based business that you choose to start, you can rest assured that there will be some bumps in the road leading to your success.

When starting out in their first home based business adventure
people almost always suffer information overload in the early
stages of trying to get their business up and running. I often
refer to this as the "taking a drink from a fire hose syndrome".

During the past few years I have helped thousands of people start
their own home based businesses. Many of these folks have become
quite successful and others, for various reasons, have failed to
achieve success.

For the first time home business entrepreneur there will be a
great deal of "newness" to virtually all aspects of getting their
business started. When you combine all of this "newness" along
with the natural sense of excitement and eagerness, it is easy
to understand how people can easily fall prey to the feeling
of being overwhelmed and lost.

To a degree, the confusion/frustration/overload situation
frequently encountered in the initial startup phase is often
similar to the old saying about trying to run before learning to
walk.

The steepness (is that a word?) of the learning curve depends
not only upon the particular type of business that is being
undertaken, but also upon the background and skills of the
person starting the business. In any event, when first
starting out, people will usually try to move forward too
quickly.

I caution people to come to grips with reality and to be
realistic in their expectations. Far too many folks read
advertisements that are hype and imply quick money, and lots of
it, from a home-based business start-up. It will certainly take
at least a year, and in some cases two to three years, before
you should expect to begin to truly make a significant profit
from your business.

It takes a lot of time to successfully market and promote a new
business. Starting out a new business with the expectation of
earning a full time income from a part time effort is not very
realistic and is likely to lead to disappointment.

If you are planning on starting a home-based business with the
intention of spending a great deal of time with young children
or caring for a sick or elderly family member, a full-time home
business (and income) may not be a realistic objective from a
time availability standpoint. Try to reconcile your income
expectations with the amount of time that you have available to
devote to starting your home business.

You can expect to experience periods of doubt in the early stages
of developing your business...did I pick a viable business
opportunity?...am I doing the right things to develop my
business?...when will I start making a profit?, and so on.

A person working at a home based business may also experience
occasional periods of feeling isolated...a feeling which
is probably brought on by the lack of interaction of a work
force or office environment.

Whatever type of home based business that you choose to start,
you can rest assured that there will be some bumps in the road
leading to your success. You should expect to experience the
"two steps forward and one step backward" thing and try to avoid
the ever-looming temptation to become overly discouraged when you
take one of those backward steps. It is very easy to lose sight
of the obvious fact that as long as you have more steps forward
than backward you will eventually get ahead!

Eight Easy Home Based Businesses for Low Budget Entrepreneurs.

Money is the main obstacle hovering over the minds of most people who want to start a Home Based Business either Full-time or Part-time. The fear of loosing their hard earned money is the main reason for putting the idea off. If you are one such person then don’t give up hope. There are many easy home based businesses you can start with a very low budget, operate successfully and generate a good income.
Some of these could be started on a full-time basis while the others could be operated on a part-time basis to commence with.

Secretarial Service:

Many small businesses cannot afford the luxury of employing accountants, secretaries and other staff to assist them in their day to day work. If you possess skills such as word processing, data entry work, accounting and proof reading, you can start a home based business by having a small home office. You probably have all the equipment you need such as a computer, printer, an Internet connection and a telephone. Prompt and reliable service is what your clients will expect of you.

Consultant:

If you are qualified or very knowledgeable in any particular field then this is a business you can start operating from home. There are many folks out there who have the money but do not have the time or the knowledge to develop their business. You can advice them and get paid for it. Have business cards printed and pass it around at community functions, meetings and seminars whenever you get an opportunity. Let the world know that you are in business.

Selling in eBay:

We have all heard of success stories of thousands of people making a living by selling things in eBay. Huge profits are being made by enterprising people who buy things in the Flea Market, Garage Sales or at discounted prices and selling them in eBay. You too can do the same. Get started by selling the old and discarded items that are in your basement. Honesty and good customer service are the key factors for success here.

Craft Making:

If you are talented and have the ability to make crafts and fancy items with your hands, then you can utilize your talents in making crafts and selling them in Fairs and Community gatherings. There are many people who make a good profit by making unique products that are sought after by wealthy people.

Avon Sales Representative:
Avon is the world’s largest direct seller of consumer beauty products mainly for women. They have also started a men’s section in 2004. Their products are sold in over 100 countries. They constantly recruit Sales Representatives who have an opportunity of earning a good income working from home.

Tutoring Service:

This is an easy home based business that can be started anytime with hardly any cost to you at all. Today’s life style and working hours does not allow parents to devote much time to tutoring their children. If you possess the knowledge, ability and the patience to handle young children, this can be the opportunity you are looking for. Start by giving free tuition, build a good reputation and gradually start charging a fee for your services.

Senior Care Provider:

If you are service minded, like helping people and working with the elderly this is a good business you can think of.. As the life expectancy increases the demand for Senior Care Personnel too keeps on increasing. Caring individuals are in great demand and are sought after by people to look after their elderly parents.

Personal/Errand Service:

There is a great demand for people who can run errands and also do shopping for clients who simply do not have the time or are unable to do it themselves. You can print Flyers and distribute them in the neighborhood and the local community, specifically targeting single parents, busy executives and senior citizens.

Conclusion:

Many enterprising people are making a living by operating these low cost easy home based businesses. If you are short of funds, seriously consider these business opportunities, choose one that suits you best, put your best foot forward and get started.

Be Your Own Boss: Stay Motivated

Going from taking orders from someone else, to being your own boss can be a great achievement, but staying focused and motivated can be a real challenge. To keep focused and motivated when starting a home business, you must become your own boss in pushing oneself to success. Keeping yourself on a schedule, taking account for every cent, and separating home from business, can help you reach these goals.

Staying up late into the night and sleeping in till noon on a weekday may be standard for the grave-night shift, but when you’re starting your own home business a structured schedule is everything. Set your alarm clock to go off one hour before your work day begins, just as if you had to leave home to go into work. Get up, get showered, and get dressed! Put in a regular eight hours or so, without the interruptions of the television, your land line, or cell phone. Don’t be your own worse boss, scribble in a regular time for lunch and two fifteen minute breaks. Putting yourself on a schedule and making yourself responsible for time, can make all the difference in the success of your home business.

Taking account for every cent coming in and going out, is also important in securing a flourishing home business. If you took out a business loan to get your business going, then budget and use your loan wisely. Don’t mix your personal income with your business income and vice versa. Keeping your business account separate from your personal account gives your business the ability to thrive. Put yourself on a business budget. This will keep you responsible and on target for your future business goals. If your business falls short in one area, then shuffle around the numbers until it works. Taking account for every cent will keep you financially responsible for your business achievements.

Keeping work separate from home is easier said then done, when you “work” at home. But, it is not impossible. Turn that extra room into a home office with all your necessary business amenities in place. This business atmosphere will keep you both focused and motivated, alleviating the distractions of watching television or temptations of doing the laundry. And if you are a stay at home business mom or dad, don’t forget to put a little play area into the blueprints of your office. Keep all your little ones needs nearby. This helps your little one feel comfortable and entertained while mom or dad does business.

Who says you can’t work at home and be your own motivated boss? Keeping on schedule, taking account for every cent, and separating home from business will pave the way to a successful home business. They say home is where the heart is, and if the heart’s at home, why not put a little of that heart into a business that will give you more time to spend with your loved ones and financial freedom.

How to choose the Right Home Based Business and start Making Money Online while you Work At Home

Have you been searching and hoping to find the perfect home based business where you can work form home and really make money on the Internet…all in the comfort of your own home?

Have you sat down and Googled terms like: work at home, work from home, best home business, how to make money online, how to start working from home, make money online, make money on the Internet, and many other similar terms?

Are you confused and disillusioned about the seemingly endless number of choices of home based business on the Internet? Do you suspect that many of them are scams…programs that may just grab your money and disappear?

I totally understand how you feel. It’s actually good that you are skeptical. You should be! There certainly are many Internet based, work from home programs out there that do take your time, your money and your dreams… leave you with nothing to show for it…and dash your hopes of finding a real home based Internet business that really works…one where you can really make a lot of money working online without taking advantage of people?

My advice to you is to research diligently prior to joining a home business program like EDC Gold, EDC Diamond, Passport To Wealth, Road Map To Riches, Big Ticket To Wealth, Reverse Funnel System, Wealth Funnel System, The Wealthy Marketer and the many other work from home, Internet based businesses similar to these.

After walking in your footsteps and doing tons and tons of research on Internet based businesses I personally chose the EDC Gold & EDC Diamond & The Wealth Funnel System Home Business. Two critical points lead me to this important decision.

FIRST, to really be successful for the long term in an Internet based business, the program must provide you an Education of HOW TO MARKET ONLINE. This is so important!

SECOND, it is extremely important that you have an EXCELLENT MENTOR to guide you and help you succeed for the long term. I am sure you have heard the expression: “Feed a man a fish…and feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish…and feed him for a lifetime!” That’s exactly what EDC Gold & EDC Diamond & The Wealth Funnel System does…it teaches YOU how to very affordably and very effectively market your business online and we teach, train and guide you every step of the way.

In fact, the amount of online and personal training is almost unheard of in this industry! The Wealth Funnel System by Derrick Harper provides you with mentoring and Internet Marketing Training Course and Classes which use EDC Gold & EDC Diamond to get people started and teach them how to market online. Then, after you begin making money online and are successful with EDC Gold, we show you other products and services you can market to grow your Streams Of Income even further! Currently we have 8 separate products that The Wealth Funnel System teaches it’s team members how to market on the Internet with our PROVEN Internet Marketing Training Video Classes and Course.

What I have found in all of my research is The Wealth Funnel System created by Derrick Harper is the ONLY home business system that is designed to remove YOU from the equation and Ensure Your Success. People can fail…but our SYSTEM WORKS.

PLUS… “The Wealth Funnel System is the ONLY Home Based Business with a 100% MONEY BACK GUARANTEE. Make a minimum of $5,000 per month within 90 days or we’ll give you 100% of your money back.” This is the ONLY online work from home Internet business I have found with a money back guarantee! We couldn’t offer this guarantee if The Wealth Funnel System did not work!

The Wealth Funnel System is the only home based business that was designed from the ground up on the principles and teachings of the most successful entrepreneurs of our time. Such as: Timothy Ferriss "The Four Hour Work Week", Robert Kiyosaki "Rich Dad Poor Dad", Robert G Allen "Creating Wealth" * "Nothing Down", Joe Vitale "The Attractor Factor", Robert Spiegel "The Best Home-Based Businesses". It’s the real deal!

So, before you pull the trigger and choose a home based Internet business at least take the time to call me, Doyle Shuler, and I’ll be happy to answer any questions or concerns you may have and hopefully point you in the right direction. What Can A Home Based Business Do For You? In What Way?

In this article, I will teach you a lesson on what a home business can do for you. I know all of you want to learn how effective a home business can help your family. Read on to get fired up!

So, what can a home base business do for you?
Home business can help you get out of the crowd of corporate America. It also helps you fire your boss and have more time to be with your love ones.
Let me ask you one question.

Are you working for someone right now?
If yes, you must be sick and tired of what you are doing. Everyday doing the same thing over and over like a zombie. From what I have notice when I am the CEO of my own business, I feel different and have the freedom I want. I also look at others differently because I see people acting like zombies, going from point A to point B every single day.

Do you want to be a zombie?
No right. Then get out of the crowd and make a change. Strive forward and reach for what you want. Home business is one of the things you can do to have that kind of freedom. There is nothing else better than being your own boss.

Having your own business, you can choose what time you want to start working and when to stop working. This means you have time freedom by managing your own time. Having a home business does not mean that you are retired. It does not mean that you can slack off and money starts to roll into your pocket. It does no work that way. You have to work and do something.

No one is there to boss you around anymore when you have your own home business. You are the CEO of your own business. But first you have to find the right home business opportunity. There are many home base business opportunity out there on the internet, many works but it also depend if it is the right one for you.

The best home business is one that has a system that is all laid out for you. You just have to follow it step by step without questions asked unless you do not know how to do that step. Also, there must be mentors that will help and lead you to the finish line. Well that mentor is your leader. You have to follow that leader and the steps he/she has taken.

You know why you have to follow the steps your leader has taken?
The step your leader has taken has made him/her successful. You want to be like your leader. Home base business is the best and the last you would hear. People are out there finding the right business for themselves. Some people who are working in the corporate America earning a six figure income is finding the right home base business so they can work at home and be with their family.

You know why they want a home based business?
They want time freedom with their kids. They want to see their kids growing up and do not want to see them not knowing who is their father or mother. Most of the children out there want their parents to be with them even though they say no sometimes. Some children do not even get to see their father or mother because the only time they come home is when they are at sleep. When morning comes, their parents already left the house for work.

Well all I can say is some children out there do not even get to see their parents. To tell you what I know, many house wives are finding a home based business so they can save their husband by firing his boss for him. This is why a home business can help you solve many problems in life.

What exactly is a work at home Dad?

Have you ever thought about designing a better quality of life by earning money from home.

I've been feeding my family for a long time now and I guess I never thought about it but I'm a "work at Home dad".

A lot if people ask me how I do it and to be honest ....I never actually thought I fit into what most Dads consider to be a REAL job.

Everyboby has to earn a living but I guess i always chose the "stick your neck out" kind of path to earning money. How about you ?

I have a couple of great kids and I wanted to spend more time with them than my Dad was able to spend with me so Working at Home seemed like a good way to go.

Having worked as an insurance agent and then (with a lot of additional costs, tests and studying) the next natural path was to become a Financial Planner. That was good for a long time and I helped a lot of people, but then I noticed that fewer and fewer of my clients were able to get ahead using the standard industry suggestions for having more money.

A shift in focus was needed and so I became a Mortgage Broker and started helping people refinance their debts to get them a little financial breathing room.

Working at home was possible in practically everything I've ever done to earn a living so That's why I want to tell others how I did it. Lately I've been really excited and pleased with the opportunities I've uncovered for beginning to earn money from home and doing it all online is an even bigger bonus.

As a "work at home Dad" a lot of what I did was still outside the house and I didn't like the idea of leaving my family to go out and work. Fast forward to today and I'm currently a recovering house rehabber and investor and i'm about to begin writing ebooks to make some money. Again from home.

I've found out some interesting thing about working at home since I began my search some time back and I'm here to tell yopu it is a great time to become a work at home Dad.

I found a nice way to start with someone who really knows what he's talking about and that has been a big help.
if you have a second go check it out here's a link http://tinyurl.com/3dg2ov .

I hope you'll consider setting up a better life that allows you more time to spend with your family like my life does.

If I can ever help you in your attempts at becoming a work at home dad let me know. It is a lot of fun.

Take Care and best of luck to you,

Work-At-Home, Freelance, Telecommute, Are They Legitimate. The Conclusion

Scams are out there everywhere you look these days. They start out by directing you to a web page that gives you a lot of Hype, Fluff, BS, and Sugar Coating. When you start a mission to find some true work at home opportunity 99% of what you are going to find are rip-offs.

I have spent almost the entire past decade seeking out this information. Most of the so called directories that are out there will charge a small fee and may have 2 or 3 legitimate companies actually listed. Unfortunately they will have a lot more bogus listing there also.

I did discover that females have a lot more options available but most of the ones I discovered do not care just as long as you can do the work. There are sites out there like phoneactresses.com that will only hire females. These people that they hire will be paid to talk dirty to guys. Have you ever seen the ads in your local paper for female dancers? The only way for a male to get past the front door would be to pay some cover charge.

I have yet to see an ad like these for a male dancer. Besides, Ben Affleckwould be the only male that might respond to an advertise for male dancers at a gay strip club. Maybe someday I will be able to stand up on stage and take my clothes off in front of gay men but this may be a long time away.

I did find a few good sites that do give some good listings of work from home companies but unfortunately most of them charge a fee before giving you access to this info. There needs to be 1 site that has a good listing of the best companies to work for, I mean for telework opportunities. Craigslist has some great ads but in-between all the good ones there is a lot of bogus ads. If anything, craigslist is a web 1.0 site.

A good site would be one that has a listing of companies that hire people to work from home but do not charge some BS start up fee or something of the sort. There should also be a forum section where people can tell others about the success they have had and which companies to definitelystay away from.

I, over the years, have applied at hundreds of companies. Any company that ended up trying to charge some sort of fee did not make it to my A list. Now over time some of these companies will cease to exist because of the way the world changes all the time and this site needs to let you know when this happens.

In my vast research I even found out that there are legitimate paid survey sites and mystery shopping opportunities. With these companies I wont lie to you there is an extreme amount of junkout there. My son one time had me fill out a survey on some site for a free laptop and guess what happened. 3 hours later I was still not done with the laptop survey site. Every time when I thought I was finished another popup would say that I still had a few more offers to complete. To this day I am still getting SPAM email because of this.

Putting up one of those mini sites was my first thought but the problem with these is that most people create them and hell would have to freeze over before they are ever actually updated...Sites like YouTube and MySpace is where everything is headed these days so I wanted to create something that would get new visitors every day.

In the days when I was putting together my A list I did accept some of these jobs for aperiod of time. One of them I actually did for almost a year on a part time basis. On this site I will be sharing all this information plus I will let you know my likes and dislikes about these companies.

A lot of marketers out there will send you an email aboutsome report they have on emergency cash generators or about some new opportunity but yet these marketers will actually put a price on these reports and I am a normal person and I know for a fact that during the hardest times in my life when I was looking for legitimate work that I did not have any extra to throw away on these reports.

The site that I have created to solve all these problems will be a membership site but guess what? There will be no membership fee initially. Maybe someday there will be but for the first half of 2008 there will not be. I will also be sharing a lot of advicearticles plus during these times when I had very little cash I was looking for sites related to living a more frugal life plus looking at all the many ways there is to earn money.

I still have not gotten a domain name like jeffslist or anything but I have had the site firstnamelastname.com for the past few months and I decided to build this site using Joomla on this domain. There are a lot of great courses on how to use Joomla and design a great site but unfortunately they all have these price tags so instead I have put together all the free info for building a membership site in Joomla

Jeffrey A. Solochek grew up in WhiteFish Bay, Wisconsin but now resides in Brunswick, Georgia. He has worked very hard on increasing the number of times where his name appears in the results of search engines on his niches of life, business, and marketing. Tax Breaks for Home Businesses

We all know continued layoffs, closings, downsizing and mergers have resulted in home based businesses being grown at a phenomenal rate. However, did you know that home businesses can be great tax shelters? Home based business people are very often focused on successfully starting the business and generating sufficient profits, initially. So it’s not until the first tax season rolls around that they realize there are deductions that can reduce gross income and thereby can reduce your tax payable. Unfortunately failure to keep some valuable receipts or other supporting documents, results in many of them being unprepared to maximize the benefits of those eductions. Be sure to keep accurate records of all your expenses, which will later provide the basis of information needed to figure your deductions for the business use of your home. You should keep receipts, bills, cancelled checks, credit card statements, and other evidence of expenses you paid. The IRS requires you to keep these records as long as they are important for any tax law, which is usually 3 years from the date your taxes are filed. As a home based business owner you may deduct a portion of the following business expenses, which are directly related to your house. ü Insurance ü Interest expense on the mortgage of the residence ü Rent, if you don't pay a mortgage ü Repairs ü Security system ü Utilities and services including natural gas, electricity and water ü Real estate taxes ü Depreciation, if you do depreciate your home As you can see utilizing your home to administer your business can be highly beneficial. However this will be only possible if you qualify for such deductions. In order to qualify you must meet the IRS requirements found in IRS publication 587. Some of the guidelines derived from IRS publication are as follows; Ø You do not have any other permanent office location outside the home where you conduct business activities. Ø The specific area defined in your house as your office, must be used for business purposes only. So you cannot use it for other purposes such as family events, etc… Further, you must use the office on a regular basis to conduct administration and management activities of the business such as bookkeeping, billing of customers, ordering supplies and writing reports. Ø Make sure that use of any space in your business office area is associated with the business, and used as storage on a regular basis. Use the space exclusively and regularly as a place where you meet or deal with customers. Now, for the time being let us assume that you manage to qualify for these deductions. Keep in mind that you will only be able to deduct a portion of the total expenses. Why? The logic is simple, you don’t exactly use the whole house for your business. As a result you need to determine how much of your house is actually used for business purposes. For example let’s say you decided to start a Tax Consultation Service and you do all your work at your home office. Assume your house is 1250 sq feet and your home office is 200 sq feet. That's 16% of the total area of the house (200 sq feet / 1250 sq feet). Thus, you can deduct 16% of all the above mentioned valid expenses on your tax return. For instance if your annual rent was $30,000, you would be able to deduct 16% of it (i.e. $4800) from your taxable income. So far we have looked at this topic from a general perspective. Therefore, it is strongly recommended that you access the IRS publications noted above and go through them in detail. It includes many more exceptions and detailed requirements you need to consider before taking the home business deduction. Further, it is also advisable to get the consultation of a tax specialist in case of complicated scenarios specific to your business. Cash Gifting is a Great Way

WORK AT HOME: CASH GIFTING IS A GREAT WAY

I have often daydreamed, while driving through the local freeway construction project on my way to the office, how nice it would be to work at home. I could make my own schedule. I’d save money on gas and work clothes. I would get back 90 minutes every day by not commuting. My cats wouldn’t have to give that sad look every morning. (You pet owners and parents know that look.) The list goes on an on.

The problem with this daydream of working at home has always been finding a way to make enough money to quit my office job. After researching a seemingly infinite number of companies and individuals who offer work at home, I could never find an activity that fit my personality and would let me receive enough money to make it worth my time. There’s always phone sales. No thanks. Then there’s selling software packages on the net. That seems popular but few people really make any serious money. The type-at-home opportunities sound good until you read the fine print about buying your own supplies and postage. And I won’t even talk about how many scams there are.

Then one day I did an internet search and found what seemed to be the answer. I am now participating in an activity that has all the elements I was daydreaming about. I get to set my own schedule. There is no selling, no explaining, and no cold calling. I don’t have to chase friends and relatives. There are no meetings to attend. I have access to support whenever I want it. There’s no long learning curve: The results are immediate. It’s not a pyramid scheme or multi-level-marketing (MLM) where you have to work you way up before you can see any money.

What I have found is an honest and legal way to help others find a path to financial freedom while I am helping myself. And the best part is that I can do it from home (or anywhere for that matter). What I stumbled on that day I was cruising the net is a private cash gifting club. I was able to get started right away, with no long training to go through. Now I am repeatedly receiving cash gifts to my door and I’m having fun!

It’s an activity that you can do from home if you’re 18 or 80 and you don’t need a college degree.

For details about you can spend more time with your family, and find your own path to freedom, I invite you to visit www.giftofwealth.net. After you’ve read all the information on the website, you won’t be able to sleep until you call me and find out how to get started!

The Good, The Bad, The Profitable work

How Did It All Begin?

Fours years after the birth of the World Wide Web affiliate marketing came along. Cybererotica, an adult site, was one of the earliest to use affiliate marketing, with a cost per click program. In 1994 CDNow launched BuyWeb and become one of the first non-adult sites with an affiliate program. In 1996 Amazon launched its affiliate program. Amazon associates placed banners and text links on their sites for books or direct links to Amazon's home page. When a purchase was made, the associate received a commission for that sale. Amazon now has one of the most widely known affiliate programs and serves as a model for other merchants wishing to use affiliate programs as a marketing tool.

What Exactly Is Affiliate Marketing?

Simply put, affiliate marketing is making money (or commissions) selling other people's goods or services.

The advantage of affiliate marketing is that you do not have to deal with inventory, shipping, or refunds. You also get to work at home and can set your own hours. But in order to profit from affiliate marketing you must be organized, focused, and patient.

The disadvantage of affiliate marketing is that as the internet has grown so has the number of affiliate programs, therefore creating more competition for customers. There are literally thousands of programs out there offering every kind of good and/or service imaginable. The key thing to remember is that it will probably not happen over night; it will take some effort.

What Type of Programs Are Out There?

Generally, affiliate programs come in 3 forms: pay per sale, pay per lead, and pay per click. They can be flat fee or commission based and sometimes have single, double, or multi tiers.

The most common type of affiliate program is commission based. They are usually pay per sale programs and pay a predetermined percentage commission to the affiliate for sales of products or services sold on his or her site.

Less common are the flat fee referral programs, which pay an affiliate a predetermined amount for every purchase or transaction on the merchant's site. They usually operate on a per-sale or per lead basis.

Pay-per-Click or click-through programs pay a small fee for every visitor to a targeted site, usually $.01 to $.20 per visitor.

Affiliate programs can also have different tiers. Single-tier programs offer commission for affiliate generated transactions only. There is no reward for signing up other affiliates. Two-tier programs offer commissions and rewards for affiliate generated transactions and for recruiting new affiliates to the program. Multi-tier programs offer affiliates rewards for signing up new affiliates several levels deep.

How Do I Find the Right Program for Me?

To make a profit it will take some hard work, the right mind-set, and perseverance. You must treat this as a business, not a hobby and give customers a reason to click on your site's banners and links.
Some tips for finding the right program:

1. Research before you join. Look at the FAQs. Find out what the program pays for as well as how much and how often it issues checks. Also find out what the minimum amount you can earn before being paid. Find out how long a program has been in operation and what support will be offered if you join.

2. Choose a program that targets your audience. Study the products that are being offered. Will they appeal to your audience?

3. Give visitors a reason to come back (and to click). Your site must be unique and worth another visit.

Affiliate marketing can be frustrating in the beginning but will be rewarding if you give it time. The longer you stick with it, the more you will learn. You definitely won't be bored. You might even make a buck or two…

Work at Home Entrepreneurs: Missing out on a FORTUNE from affiliates?

By Martin Melisek

Many work at home entrepreneurs sell digital products online. From ebooks, DVD's to teleseminars and copywriting services, they all have something in common: once a product website is put online, there's a challenge of getting traffic and customers.

If your home business is on a budget, having to pay for advertising upfront might not be viable. That's where revenue sharing can help you get advertising partners you couldn't get otherwise.

Affiliate program is basically a revenue sharing advertising model that you can add to your product website. Advantage is that you pay for performance -- only when a certain action is completed. Most work at home entrepreneurs run pay per sale affiliate programs. A simplified overview how affiliate program works would be:

* Recruit affiliate partners
* Provide them with affiliate promotional tools
* Pay them commission on customers they deliver to your website

Building a profitable affiliate program requires time and effort, but if done right it is a big advantage - a network of advertising partners.

Good partnerships with affiliates are more reliable than Search engine

rankings or Paid campaigns. Direct relationships with affiliates will increase sales of your products but also help you with launches of new products.

Affiliate program also transforms the way you look on websites online. In every niche, there are websites that sell complimentary products, blogs that can send you targeted traffic etc. With affiliate program you can approach them make them an offer.

If you want to build your own network of affiliates, that bring you more sales, you have 2 basic options: Either you join an affiliate network (such as ClickBank or CJ) or run your own in-house affiliate program.

There are several differences between the two. Affiliate networks will host your affiliate program for you. They typically charge set-up fees and percentage from all affiliate sales monthly (or a monthly minimum). Affiliate networks provide initial exposure for your affiliate program by promoting it to the affiliates in that network. Affiliate networks typically take care of paying your affiliates out. Most affiliates work at home.

The other option is to run your own, independent program. This means you purchase affiliate software for your website. There are several advantages of this solution:

* Costs -- Independent programs usually don't involve monthly fees.
* Higher commissions -- networks take their cut e.g. 20% from affiliate commissions. With in-house program you can give these commissions to affiliates and start an affiliate program that is more competitive
* Affiliates are yours - with in-house software you recruit affiliates for yourself, not for the network. Networks have multiple advertisers so your offer is not the only one that is promoted to affiliates in that network. You do the job of recruiting affiliates, network makes profit.
* Direct relationship with affiliates -- networks typically restrict your access to affiliate's contact information. They don't want you to make deal with affiliates outside network -- because that way they can't charge you.
* Dependent on 3rd party -- if network fees increase, your only option is to pay or stop your affiliate program.
* Search engine benefits -- if you care about search engine rankings / SEO, with independent programs affiliates link directly to your website and can result in thousands of direct links to your work at home business.

Basic requirements on affiliate software. Listed below is basic functionality that is required in all kinds of affiliate programs:

* track affiliate-referred sales / leads / clicks / impressions / subaffiliates
* should support your affiliate scheme
* handle new affiliate signups
* calculate commissions for affiliates
* notify you and affiliates about major events (sale, new affiliate signup etc)
* distribute affiliate code (promotional tools) affiliates
* compatible with your shopping cart / payment processor
* 24 / 7 real-time reports for you and affiliates
* possibility to customize and brand design of affiliate panel and affiliate sign up form
* keep track of affiliate payouts
* refund / chargeback management

Conclusion:

Affiliate program is a way to increase online sales for your home-based business cost-effectively. Main advantage is that you build your own network of advertising partners and pay only when action is completed. To start an affiliate program, you can choose either affiliate network or in-house software.

Yes, I'm GLAD I Chose to be a Stay at Home Mom!

By Rachel Pelta Golinkin

I remember the day I quit my old job to become a stay at home mom. It was an easy decision, a choice made long ago with my husband (before he was my husband). Perhaps it was the hormones, but I choked up a little when I told my very understanding (andforgiving!) boss that I wasn’t coming back to my job after all. He was a little surprised since he, “never really thought of me as that type.” I’m not really sure what that meant. Maybe he was surprised because I had always been so devoted to my job he just assumed that devotion wouldn’t change because I had become a mother. Whatever he meant, it was just the first in a long line of comments that would sometimes make me stop for a minute and think about how I feel and how others may feel about my choice.

Anyone who’s ever commented to me negatively has never meant it maliciously… at least, I don’t believe so. I think occasionally there was a tinge of jealousy in my working friends who wanted to stay home and work at home, but for whatever reason, couldn’t. I think sometimes the comments were meant as a show of camaraderie as if to say, I’ve been there and done that. And other times, there were those who, I think, regretted their choice and seemed to take it out on me. It’s hard not to get offended sometimes. Off handed comments can sting. And I’m not trying to be high and mighty because I choose to be a stay at home (and work at home) mom. I am forever grateful that I have this opportunity. I understand that not every woman (or man for that matter) can choose to be a stay at home parent. So, what do I do when I hear these comments? Well, I don’t get mad. I don’t want to fan the flames of the “mommy wars.” I’m perfectly happy to stay conflict-free and working at home. I take a moment to remember why I made this choice to work at home and stay at home, and what it has given me, and I wear those memories of stinging comments as badges of honor.
"I've never been happier with my choice to be a stay at home mom."
“Aren’t you lonely? Don’t you feel disconnected from the world? You’re cooped up in the house by yourself all day and there doesn’t seem to be a lot of other moms and kids on your block.” Well, sure, that’s true. But I’m no Stepford wife. I am alone in the house a lot of the time (especially in nasty Chicago winters). But that doesn’t mean I’m lonely. It forces me to be creative and to find new ways to connect (beyond the internet). I take classes, go to the park, walk around the block, or (as in the case of one of my brave neighbors who also is a stay at home mom) knock on doors to find others like me. Do I feel disconnected? Sure, sometimes, but I felt like that at work sometimes. You can feel lonely and disconnected in a stadium full of people just as much as staying at home with your children. I’m not lonely; I’m learning new ways to connect with those around me.

“Aren’t your bored?” Sure, I get bored sometimes. I don’t enjoy the days that the only thing on my to do list is “clean toilet.” But, there are other things to do in life besides clean toilets (that don’t involve child care, cooking or cleaning other parts of the house).

Being at home gave me the freedom and flexibility to chase an old dream I dropped for a long time… writing. Now I have the time to devote myself to it, an opportunity I would not have had if I hadn’t chosen to be a stay at home mom.

“Don’t you feel like you’re wasting your degree?” I have two degrees, actually, and no, I don’t feel like I’m wasting them. Sure, I didn’t get a degree in Domestic Engineering, but I’m using the degrees I already have to be a work at home mom in addition to beinga stay at home mom. And having worked hard to earn those degrees I’ve got the skills I need to make this thing work.

“Don’t you miss working?” Well, that depends on how you define working. I work pretty hard raising my son. Do I miss the nine to five routine? Nope. Do I miss office politics? Not at all. Being a stay at home mom has given me not only a great first job as mom, but a fantastic second job I designed myself. I’ll admit the benefits aren’t that great (though the wet sloppy kisses are kind of fun) but I have more freedom and flexibility than I ever had in the office and there’s nobody trying to backstab me or undermine me.

“Don’t you get tired of the baby talk all day? Don’t you crave adult company?” Some days, it does get kind of rough, so that’s when I remember me. I might hire a sitter (like Grandma and Grandpa) so I can get out and tend to some errands. I’ll make sure to meet up with my grown-up friends (who do and don’t have kids) and catch up over brunch or dinner. I go to play groups with other moms and even though the kids are there, there’s plenty of time for talk that doesn’t involve babies.

“C’mon. Tell me the truth. Are you really happy at home?” Yup!! I’ve got a great new job as a stay at home mom.

I’ve never been happier with my choice and I hope you’re happy for me too.

Smelling the Roses a Great Break from Working at Home

By Audreena Anderson for Work-at-Home.org

Back when you had that awful office job you were required to show up at work at a certain time, go to a lunch at a certain time and leave at a certain time. When you weren’t coming or going you tried to get your work done, if you weren’t getting interrupted by a time-wasting meeting or a long winded colleague.

If your work became stressful there was little to do to really relieve your stress. It’d be difficult to explain to your boss why you walked out the door and went for a walk. The company bathrooms aren’t, well, the place where’d you prefer to hang out and relax if you had your druthers. You could become the interruptor instead of the interruptee and go annoy some of your colleagues, but that’s not really your style.

If you work at home, you’ve successfully eliminated that commute to and from work and you’ve probably eliminated losing productivity from long winded colleagues. Stuffy, boring meetings are probably little more than a bad memory.

What to do with all that extra time?

Why not take up gardening? Gardeners that work at home enjoy many benefits, including being able to – literally – stop living life so fast that they forget to smell the roses.

Gardening provides many benefits to people that work at home. Home-based gardeners usually have a more beautiful view outside their home office window. When work becomes stressful or one’s mind goes blank, the home-based gardener can take a short stroll out to their garden to smell the roses… plant the roses… watch the roses… fertilize the roses… or cut the roses.

For many people gardening is relaxing, invigorating, even inspiring, and it can be very good exercise. Many people report a stress-relieving sensation simply from getting their hands in dirt. It’s also a great opportunity for home-based workers to get some sun, soak up sun to create Vitamin D and keep a healthy looking skin color.

It matters not what goal you seek,

It’s secret here reposes…

You’ve got to dig from week to week

To get Results or Roses.

Edgar Guest
So if you work at home, consider gardening as a way to increase yourproductivity, improve the overall quality of your life, improve the look and value of your property, and ensure that you’ll always be able to take a break for a few moments to smell the roses.

Wanted: Available Moms for Challenged Teens

By Joana Tacheny for Work-at-Home.org

The day my daughter was born was the happiest day of my life. Watching my husband drive her to daycare so I could keep my day job was like having my own heart ripped from my body.

So I got a work at home job. My job was in sales and I knew I couldn’t be successful at sales while still watching a toddler, so she was in day care part of the time. I was still able to meet her there for lunch, be there much more than I would have in a full time outside job, and often I was able to pick her up early and have quality time.

Many of us moms instinctively know how important it is to be there for babies and young children, and I was there.

I am not writing to pass judgment or tell any mother, that whether they stay home or work away from home, are right or wrong. But I think many of us moms need to also re-think our importance in our kids’ lives in their difficult teen years.

The middle school years and high school years, ages 11 to 18 are crucial to your children. They are being exposed to social elements and behaviors that can turn destructive at any given time. They begin to care what they look like, how they dress, what they say and who they hang out with. They may begin to withdraw, shut down inside and bask in their confusion. They may remain intact in a womb, not their mother’s, their own… in their shell of self-doubt and fear and often, anger. They may feel different. Their face may not be as pretty or good looking as others that confidently pass them in the hall. Their legs and their arms, may be uncoordinated and unable to perform and be a star on a sports team. They may struggle with homework and get poor grades. Often having to fend for themselves, figure out their own math problems, only to be teased later for failing a test. Or, to be shamefully reprimanded by their teachers for not caring and not studying. Then, to ultimately be disgraced and tormented by their parents for their awful report card. Often, they search for love, solace and companionship, not at home, but on the streets or somewhere in their town where the unwanted and unloved children and teens seem to gather. And often alcohol, drugs, sex and disturbing music are the crutches that hold them up, until they crash and fall.

I can’t be with my daughter 24/7. I can’t always protect her from some of the ugliness that is in our world. And I can’t physically stop her from making bad choices. The odds are, she will make some. But I can search for the means, the way to be there when she gets home from her middle school, and eventually her high school. I can see her face at 3:10pm, read her body language or listen to her silence. I can hear her on her cell phone, see what windows are open on her computer. Observe her friends who knock on our door, or pick her up in their parents car, or someday their own car. I can know where she is going and what time she gets home. I can continue giving her unconditional love and support. I can sometimes overwhelm her with love if I want to. Because I will be there. I will be there to notice a change in her. A look, a mannerism or an attitude that will trigger a red flag. I will sit there with her quietly and hold her and love her until she is ready to talk to me. Or, I will sit in another room and give her some independence, some space and some time to remember that she can trust me. I can’t and won’t ever be her best friend. I have to remain her mother. But she can like me and find comfort in knowing that I will never walk away from her. Ever. I can ask her questions, and realize that often I will likely have to accept a yes or no answer. What I won’t have to do is rush in the door at 6:30PM and be angry that the traffic was horrible, or that my boss criticized my work. I won’t have to scream at her for messing up the house or forgetting to take the chicken out of the freezer. I won’t be too tired to ask how her day at school was and what she’s got planned for the evening. I won’t have missed out on those few hours between 3:10PM and 6:30pm Monday through Friday when freedom, temptation, opportunity and boredom face my daughter head on. I won’t be too tired, or too stressed to notice that something is wrong with her. I won’t because, I will have been there.

These years….these heartbreaking, ecstatic, disappointing, frightening and happy years for our children and are teens come around only once. I will have my life, my independence, my time with my husband, my siblings and my friends. I will have my hobbies, my activities and my world with my own set of problems and disappointments. But most importantly what I will have, is my daughter, my love for her and my time for her when she walks through that door. And during those precious few hours after school, I will sense and I will know, if I am losing her and I will pull her back in. And I will be thankful that I was home and that my home office is just up the steps.

Data Entry Jobs: Exposed!

by Audreena Anderson

Plunk, plunk our fingers go, while Fido naps at our feet and Queen sings “We are the Champions” in our headset.

Indeed, we are champions, finally! Getting paid BIG BUCKS to have this data entry job from home. The ads were right: I’m making $500 a day just plunking away part time at my computer whenever I feel like it. I’m going to be rich, and all I need is fingers! Oh, I love this kind of job. No human contact. No stress. No actual work. (Plunking isn’t really work.) No experience necessary. It’s true I’m not even that great of a typist, but I can email my friends, can’t I, that’s good enough, and afterall, I’m earning huge, huge paychecks! Yep, I’m a champion all right. Why do people go to college and do other dumb things like that when they can make almost $250,000 a year plunking away in a just a few minutes every day doing data entry?

Hellooo. Please join us back in reality. This job doesn’t exist!

Yes, there are real data entry jobs. Trillions of names and addresses and other piece of information are typed, entered and stored in computers every year.

But that doesn’t mean that just because you can type a text message or an email you’re qualified to make $500 a day with a “data entry job”.

Do yourself a favor. Finish reading this article and then promise yourself that you will never believe those ridiculous ads again.

Data entry jobs are also sometimes also promoted as “Typing Jobs” or “Email Processor” jobs and all of them are nothing more than modern versions of the old envelope stuffing scam.
Real data entry jobs do exist.

Usually, real data entry jobs require someone to pass a typing test and/or they may require that someone has previous experience. They are also usually locally-based jobs because no employer in their right mind is going to ship valuable, irreplaceable source data across country to a total stranger to enter the data when they have far more typists than they need right in their local area. And, since the work requires only modest skills and education the pay is also equally modest.

Real data entry jobs are FREE!
They won’t cost you a cent.

So just say no to fake data entry jobs, unless they're free. A helpful Report that may help you find a REAL data entry job working from your own home and that won’t cost you a single penny is, “How to get a Data Entry Job at Home Without Getting Ripped Off”, available at: www.JobsForMoms.com. Moneyfromhome.com also publishes award-winning scam-free lists of over 1000 other REAL work at home jobs.

Happy plunking.

FREE PAID SURVEY JOBS

By Carole Anderson for Work-at-Home.org

“Get Paid for Your Opinion”, “Fill out Simple Reports for $2000 a week”. “Survey Companies pay $100 per hour”. “Top Ten Ranked Survey Jobs, Get Paid $30 per Survey”. Yada yada yada.

Anytime you’ve got thousands of websites feeding on your surfing like sharks in a pool of fish, you gotta wonder why.

To hear these paid survey sites tell it, you can become a millionaire by simply telling some big company whether you like pink shoes or green, whether you prefer butter pecan ice cream or vanilla bean delight.

As always, it’s a scam. Don’t fall for it. Here’s what you need to know.

First of all, there really are legitimate websites and companies out there that genuinely hire people to mystery shop, scope out customer service reps or to give opinions about ice cream and shoes. They’re really out there and it really is FUN to get paid to go out to eat, go to a movie, test a new product that nobody else has seen, or tattle on a mean customer service rep at some big company and get paid a handsome fee for it. You can find these types of jobs by very CAREFULLY surfing the net yourself or by using a service that pre-screens all work at home jobs and publishes only scam-free work at home jobs like www.jobsformoms.com.

But the scam sites are the easy to find, and free. They spend hundreds of thousands of dollars a year making sure their scammy little ads are right in front of your eyes, making promises they can’t keep. These websites are “FREE” and they’ll do just about anything to lure you in.

But why? What’s in it for them if they’re FREE?

There are three really dangerous risks you take whenever you respond to ANY “FREE” PAID SURVEY SITE:

1. You risk your name, address and other information being used and widely abused on the internet. They will require that you give them this information. Some of these sites are designed purely to get your name, address and email address for spamming.

2. Many of these sites will require you to register or enroll in introductory offers, saying that it is required for you to do the surveys. Some people enroll in HUNDREDS of these offers without getting paid to do a single survey. They claim you can ‘cancel’ before your credit card gets charged, but surprise! Lots of times the cancellation doesn’t take effect and you get unwanted charges on your credit card. Avoid the whole thing by NEVER, EVER giving your credit card number to a paid survey site! (A legitimate mystery shopping or survey company will NEVER require your credit card.)

3. Identify theft. Some of these sites are reportedly set up just to get your personal information, make unauthorized charges to your account, and disappear. Some of these may also try to get your social security number for even more destruction to your identity.

It is imperative that you know what type of company you’re dealing with because honest mystery shopping and survey companies will also require your personal information and social security number in order to hire you for LEGITIMATE work. The IRS requires that if they pay you $600 or more per year, they must issue a 1099 to you reflecting your income. For this reason they must have your social security number and other information.

So how do you know if a company is legitimate or not and if it’s safe (or not) to give them your social security number?

First, it is important to know that most REAL mystery shopping companies don’t advertise and they will NEVER ask for your credit card number. You won’t find dirty little ads for these companies all over the internet. To be safe, you can use a scam-eliminating service like those mentioned in this article.

If you don't want to use a service like that and you'd prefer to brave the internet yourself, let's repeat this important information:

A REAL survey or mystery shopping job will never require your credit card number and they don't advertise all over the place.

A REAL survey or mystery shopping job will never require your credit card number and they don't advertise all over the place.

A REAL survey or mystery shopping job will never require your credit card number and they don't advertise all over the place.

(Forgive me. I’m trying to build up your resistance to all those tempting but dangerous little ads.)

So if you do see an aggressive little ad for “free” paid surveys…or “top ranked” paid surveys, or “Top 10 Paid Survey Sites”… understand that they are probably not the real thing. The real thing is listed at the scam-free work at home job websites listed in this article or doing business quietly and honorably somewhere in America without aggressive advertising.

By the way, do you prefer pink shoes or green?

Print Design. A Great Home Business for Parents.

By Lori Wisniewski for Work-at-Home.org

I decided to stay home with my children after our first child passed away when he was only one month old. My husband and I believed that the most important thing was to nurture our children. I became pregnant with our second child shortly after our son died and quit my job at 20 weeks into the pregnancy. I work at home now and I’ve never looked back.

Print Design is just a fancy way to say that I create things on my computer and sell them. I have done flyers for our local “Community Day” celebration and do a lot of work for area churches. Mostly, I do business cards and greeting cards. I have some greeting card displays in stores throughout the community. But, I occasionally get jobs for picture reproduction and resumes, as well. I make laminated book marks and I make personalized self adhesive gift tags and small sheets of gift wrap (8 ½” X 14”). I love this work because I am a creative person, and it also allows me the freedom to be a stay at home mom and work from my home as well. How fortunate am I?

If you enjoy working on your computer, have the money to buy or already have the software, computer and printer, are a creative designer and can market your service to get customers, maybe this is the right business for you, too.

Start up for Print Design is a little pricey for most work at home moms but it quickly reimburses itself. The first step is to marry an accountant. (Just kidding.) But, since my husband is an accountant, I have a head-start in the bookkeeping department of the business.

We purchased a 2-gig computer with a huge memory capacity – this is vital when working with graphics of any kind. We also purchased a state of the art printer that also scans (vital to Print Design) and copies (vital to bookkeeping). The printer was very costly but I have found that I cannot work at home without the right equipment. I decided to do everything possible to make working at home fulfilling as well as convenient.

My customers come to my home to pick up their projects so I do not have to keep a formal office open. My home is my office. Also, I am hoping to start a web page soon to attract orders on-line, but I choose to keep my business small so that I can concentrate on my first job – taking care of my family.

I do some advertising. But advertising is costly so I keep it to a minimum. I only advertise if something special is coming up. Every year I send out a flyer to my usual customers before the “tri-fecta”. That is, Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Other than that, I don’t advertise but I depend on word of mouth. You would be surprised to find that many people will go with a small home office run by a stay at home mom over larger companies because I am able to do everything people need in a time-frame that is convenient for them. I usually have a 24 hour turn-around. Larger companies are not able to turn projects around in a day because they are overwhelmed with orders.

The perfect job for moms is one that stays small. My company is small on purpose. I will not do jobs over 1500 pieces, however, I will do jobs as small as one piece. It’s my niche. Creating a niche is vital to the work at home mom. You need to find an area you can move into and be the only game in town. Obviously, you are not going to be able to stay at home with your children and run your own McDonald’s franchise. Likewise, you cannot stay at home and run McDonald's out of your own kitchen. But, you could stay at home and work on mini projects throughout the day. My business runs from 6:30 AM to 10:00 PM. That is, I can choose when I work and when I don’t anywhere between those hours. On Saturday I might even choose to stay open late!

Print Design might not be your idea of the perfect at home job. However, there are a lot of things you can do to work out of your home and spend quality time with your children. I would recommend finding your niche and going for it. I am completely content in all areas of my life because I nurture myself as well as my family.
Lori Wisniewski is a stay at home mom with two children. She runs Eavenwood Designs out of her home and has been working out of her home for two years. To order products from Eavenwood Designs, you can e-mail Lori at eavenwood@juno.com

IS A WORK AT HOME IS A WORK AT HOME SITUATION RIGHT FOR YOU?

By Gina Steele

Some of us just want to work at home because we’re sick of NOT working at home. Some of us want to work at home to become greener. Some of us want to work at home for health reasons. Some of us want to work at home because we just love being at home. Others want to work at home to be there for kids, spouses or other family members.

For some women, as soon as many people become parents their career goals shift. They put their career on hold indefinitely while they enjoy every aspect of being a stay at home parent. Others believe that a big part of being a good mom or parent is to maintain their career as it existed prior to motherhood or dadhood. However, for many, work life isn’t so black and white when children enter the picture. Some parents know they want a balance of being home and working, but they don’t know what that should be. This question is often one of the first signs that a work from home situation might be worth investigating.

When thinking about a work from home situation, one of the first considerations to make is whether or not you are emotionally ready to leave the workforce. Sure there are days when office life seems dull or full of unnecessary politics, but your work environment may provide positive things as well. Work environments give you a structure and routine that while at times might seem boring or stressful, is often reassuring and productive. And having colleagues and a boss can be an important part of people’s creative fuel. Some folks truly thrive in the company of their coworkers and they need to find a way to still be connected if they work from home.

“At first I felt a bit isolated when I started working from home, but I found ways to connect with my office even though I no longer have a desk there,” explains one work from home advertising executive and mom. “Brainstorming via conference calls and making an occasional trip to the office for meetings are just two ways I stay connected with my work colleagues.”

For some the social outlet that their career provides is necessary to their sanity.

Time for friends and socializing is often less available when you become a parent. Many women are grateful to have a work environment that provides a social connection.

“I truly missed seeing my work friends every day, but it forced me to develop a ‘new’ environment to make friends. I started going out most mornings to get a paper and coffee after getting the kids off to school and I wound up making friends at the local coffee shop,” explains a work from home accountant and mom.

A work from home grant writer and mom was afraid of going crazy without some adult contact. She decided she would be happier and therefore more productive if she made an effort to find some friends in her local community.

“I decided to join my neighborhood gym and enjoy a midday workout. Now I’m not only getting some exercise, but I have a new group of gym friends I really enjoy seeing a few times a week.”

You might be coming at a work from home situation from another angle. Maybe you’ve been a stay at home mom for a while and miss working. Maybe a work from home scenario will allow you to get back to your career while still being accessible to your children.

“Even though I love being home with my kids I simply knew that sooner or later I would want more. When my third child was born I was busier than ever on the home front, yet I felt ready to start working again. It had been four years since I worked as a manager in a communications firm and I started to miss the independence and growth I received from my career. I decided to do some freelance work from home and have been so happy to have a new balance of work and family in my life,” explains a work from home communications executive and mom.

In addition to the emotional implications of a work from home situation, it’s also important to consider whether or not you are financially ready for this change. While some people have a great home office, others need some help setting one up. Often if you’re working for an established company, a computer, printer, phone line, etc. may be supplied by your employer, but other things might not be. A good desk and chair and some additional office supplies will most likely be your responsibility.

If you are starting your own home business not only will you need to consider the office supplies mentioned above, but a host of other start up cost may also apply. For example, will you need marketing supplies for your new business such as business cards, stationery, and a website? Or is the size and scope of your business such that you require legal and accounting fees?

Regardless of the costs associated with your work from home situation, it may be helpful to spread some of these expenses and purchases over a period of time before starting. If you’re working for an employer, be sure to have a clear understanding of how specific expenses will be covered, such as phone bills and office supplies. If you’re working for yourself, there’s no better time to begin and maintain detailed budgets and accounting information.

Especially if you’re a parent, with a work from home scenario you also need to consider the other people that live in your home. Will you need childcare while you work? How will your new schedule impact your kid’s schedule? Will projects encroach upon the time you were once typically free to be a mother and wife? Will you be using space that once had another function? Will someone miss that space? While it’s impossible to anticipate how your work situation will impact everyone, it’s once again good to plan ahead.

Take some time to set up your office and let everyone understand this is now your workspace. Whether it’s a room with a door or a space in a larger room, it’s important for your family to realize this area is designed for your work. Your kids need to understand they shouldn’t play with any of your work supplies and they shouldn’t enter your office while you’re working.

You’ll want to have your childcare plan in place whether you plan to work when your spouse is home, when a sitter is available, when the kids are in school, etc. Don’t start working and decide to ‘figure it out as you go.’ It’s simply not realistic to be as productive as you possible can be without a good childcare plan in place.

“I made the mistake of thinking I could just work around the kids’ schedule. Whenever I had a few minutes, I would work. This was an awful plan. Just when I would get going, someone would need me. I constantly used the television as a babysitter. Eventually I got things sorted out and hired a sitter for eight hours a week and also worked a few additional hours during the evening and weekends when my husband was around. This plan is perfect; I just wish I hadn’t spent a miserable two months juggling beforehand. I would tell anyone not to make my mistake. Figure out your work schedule and childcare plan first,” explained a work from home inventory consultant and mom.

A work from home situation isn’t one that should be rushed into. You must consider several things. How will your family be affected, what are the financial and emotional implications, do you have a good workspace? Like any major life decision, this one should be careful considered and investigated before taking the plunge. Don’t just act. Plan this career move out carefully.
